Hair preperation in Harrogate

Bridal Hair FAQs

Where do you travel to?

I'm based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and I'm delighted to travel throughout Yorkshire, County Durham and many surrounding areas for weddings. If you're unsure whether I cover your venue, just get in touch—I'd be happy to let you know.

Travel is subject to availability and the logistics of your wedding date, particularly during the busiest part of the wedding season.

To keep things fair, travel is charged based on the time required for the journey, rather than mileage. For example, if your venue requires a two-hour round trip, the travel charge will be based on two hours of travel in addition to your bridal hair services.

Planning a destination wedding? I'd love to be part of your celebrations. For weddings overseas, I'll simply ask that travel and accommodation costs (such as flights, airport transfers and hotel accommodation) are covered.

Do I need a bridal hair preview before the day?

My answer is yes... yes... and triple yes! 🤍

Your bridal hair preview is one of the most important parts of the planning process. It's our opportunity to get together, chat through your ideas and create the perfect hairstyle for your wedding day.

While you may have saved lots of inspiration photos, it's impossible to know if a particular style will suit your hair type, length or thickness until we try it. During your preview, we'll discover what works best for you, whether clip-in extensions would add the volume you're looking for, and which hair accessories will complement your chosen style.

It's also the perfect time for me to advise on hair preparation, timings for the wedding morning, and answer any questions you may have.

By the time your wedding day arrives, you'll know exactly how your hair will look, and we can simply recreate your chosen style with confidence—leaving you free to relax, enjoy the morning and soak up every special moment.

Do my bridesmaids need a bridal hair preview?

Not necessarily.

Most of my brides choose a cohesive look for their bridal party, whether that's matching hairstyles or styles that complement each other beautifully. During your bridal hair preview, we'll discuss your overall vision, and from there I can tailor each bridesmaid's hairstyle to suit their individual hair type, length and personality while keeping everything beautifully coordinated.

However, if one of your bridesmaids is particularly nervous, has very thick or challenging hair, or simply feels more comfortable seeing their hairstyle in advance, they're more than welcome to book a bridal hair preview too.

The choice is entirely yours, and I'm always happy to advise on what I think would work best for your bridal party.

I'm not sure which hairstyle will suit me, can you help?

Finishing touches at Norwood Park

Absolutely! In fact, many of my brides arrive at their bridal hair preview feeling exactly the same.

You might have a collection of inspiration photos but aren't sure which style will suit your hair, face shape or wedding look—and that's completely normal. That's where I come in.

During your bridal hair preview, we'll look at everything that makes your look uniquely yours, including your dress, wedding style, veil, hair accessories, hair colour, texture and length. We'll also talk about how you normally wear your hair, because I'm a firm believer that your wedding hairstyle should feel like the very best version of you.

Together, we'll explore your inspiration photos, identify what you love about each style, and create a hairstyle that's beautifully tailored to you. My aim is for you to leave your preview feeling completely confident, excited and knowing exactly how you'll look on your wedding day.

After all, you should look in the mirror and think, "This feels like me"—just a little more special. 🤍

Can I recreate a hairstyle I've seen on Pinterest or Instagram?

Finishing touches for my bride

Pinterest and Instagram are fantastic for gathering inspiration—I use them too! 🤍 But it's important to remember that they're exactly that... inspiration, rather than a blueprint.

Many of the images you see online are created by incredibly talented artists working with professional models, extensions, perfect lighting and several hours to create one hairstyle. While they're beautiful, they don't always reflect what will work for every bride's hair.

Rather than trying to recreate another stylist's work exactly, I use your inspiration photos to understand what you love. It might be the softness, the texture, the shape or the overall feel of a hairstyle. From there, I'll create a look that's tailored to your hair type, length, colour and wedding style, while staying true to the look you're dreaming of.

One of my biggest recommendations is to save inspiration from my own portfolio and Instagram. You booked (or are considering booking) me because you love my style, so the hairstyles you've seen me create are the best indication of what I can achieve for you.

It's also worth looking at brides with hair that's similar to yours. For example, if you have dark brunette hair, hairstyles on other brunettes will give you a much more realistic idea of how texture and detail will look than the same style on very blonde hair. Hair colour, thickness and length all play a part in the finished result.

My goal is never to copy someone else's work—it's to create a hairstyle that suits you beautifully and feels like the very best version of yourself on your wedding day.

When should I book my bridal hair preview?

I recommend booking your bridal hair preview around 6–8 weeks before your wedding day.

By this point, your hair will usually be close to the length and colour it will be on your wedding day, making it the perfect time to finalise your chosen hairstyle. It also gives you plenty of time to purchase any clip-in extensions or hair accessories if needed, without feeling rushed.

As my diary fills up quickly during the wedding season, I recommend arranging your preview at least a couple of months in advance to secure a suitable appointment.

Bridal hair previews are held Wednesday to Friday, as weekends are reserved exclusively for weddings.

By the time you leave your preview, you'll know exactly how your hair will look, and we can simply recreate your chosen style on the morning of your wedding, leaving you free to relax and enjoy every moment.

How does a bridal hair preview work? What should I bring?

Bridal veil shoot at Hirst Priory
Suzy's wedding day

Your bridal hair preview is a relaxed two-hour appointment where we'll bring your wedding hair vision to life. We'll chat through your ideas, try your chosen style (or a couple of options if needed), and make sure you leave feeling excited and completely confident about your wedding day look.

What should I bring?

Please bring:

  • Your veil and any hair accessories you've already purchased.

  • Photos of your wedding dress.

  • A selection of hairstyle inspiration (Pinterest, Instagram or images from my own portfolio).

If you haven't chosen your accessories yet, don't worry! Once we've created your hairstyle, I'll be happy to advise on what will complement it beautifully.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course! You're welcome to bring a friend or family member for a second opinion. My studio is quite cosy, so I kindly ask that you bring no more than two guests.

How should I prepare my hair?

Please wash and blow-dry your hair the evening before your appointment so it's clean, dry and ready for styling.

Despite the old myth, clean hair is always best! It gives me the perfect blank canvas to create a long-lasting bridal hairstyle.

What should I wear?

If possible, wear a white or cream top that sits similarly to your wedding dress neckline and can be pulled off your shoulders if needed. This helps you visualise your finished bridal look and makes your preview photographs feel much more like the real thing.

Will you take photographs?

Yes! Once you're happy with your hairstyle, I'll take plenty of photographs. These are invaluable on your wedding day, helping me recreate your chosen style exactly as we planned.

With your permission, I'd also love to share a few images on my website or social media after your wedding to inspire future brides. If you'd prefer to keep them private, that's absolutely no problem at all.

What if I change my mind?

Your preview appointment gives us plenty of time to perfect your chosen hairstyle. If, after your appointment, you'd like to explore completely different styles, you're very welcome to book an additional bridal hair preview. This is charged at the same rate as your original appointment.

Who will put my veil in on the wedding day?

Oulton Hall wedding

Don't worry—I've got you covered! 🤍

Whenever possible, I'll stay with you right until you're fully dressed and ready to walk down the aisle, so I'll carefully position your veil as one of the very last finishing touches.

If you're getting dressed at a different location or would prefer to wait until later, I'll show a trusted member of your bridal party exactly how to place your veil securely. I'll also explain the best way to remove it after the ceremony with as little disruption to your hairstyle as possible.

If you've chosen to wear your veil underneath your hairstyle, I recommend having the comb removed and replaced with small loops. This allows me to secure the veil with hair grips, making it much easier to remove later while helping to keep your hairstyle looking beautiful for the rest of the day.

If you're still searching for the perfect veil, I highly recommend Rebecca Ann Designs. Rebecca creates beautiful bespoke veils, designed especially for each bride, and her work is simply stunning.

Which hair products and styling tools do you use?

Harrogate wedding

I love discovering and testing new professional products, so my kit is always evolving with the very best products the industry has to offer.

Over the years, I've built a carefully selected collection of professional styling products that help create beautiful, long-lasting bridal hairstyles while still allowing your hair to feel natural and touchable.

Some of my favourite brands include Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS+, Redken and KYK Magic Dust, alongside a range of other trusted professional products that I know perform beautifully on a wedding day.

When it comes to styling tools, I only use professional equipment that I trust to deliver consistent, long-lasting results. My favourites include Babyliss PRO flat irons, ghd curling tongs, and the Beauty Works Extra Long Curling Wand, which is perfect for creating soft, glamorous Hollywood waves.

Every bride's hair is different, so I'll always choose the products and tools that are best suited to your individual hair type, style and the look we're creating.

How much is the Booking Fee?

Middleton Lodge. Laura's bridal ponytail

To secure your wedding date, I require an £80 booking fee along with a completed booking form.

Your wedding date is only confirmed once both the booking form and booking fee have been received. Until then, the date will remain available for other enquiries.

As I can only accept one wedding booking per date, I'm unable to reserve dates without a completed booking. If another bride completes her booking before you, unfortunately the date will be offered to her.

The £80 booking fee is non-refundable and non-transferable and is deducted from your final balance.

If you need to cancel your booking, the booking fee will not be refunded. If your wedding date changes, a new booking fee will be required to secure the new date, as I may have declined other enquiries for your original booking.

If you have any questions before booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch—I'm always happy to help.

One of my bridesmaids has short hair or only wants a few curls. Is the price the same?

Blonde highlighted textured updo with a low messy bun

Yes, all bridal party members are priced the same, regardless of the hairstyle they choose.

The reason for this is that I reserve a dedicated time slot for each person on your wedding morning. Whether someone chooses a full updo, soft waves or just a few curls, that time has been set aside exclusively for them.

In reality, a simpler style doesn't always take less time. For example, creating beautiful, long-lasting curls on thick hair can often take just as long as styling an elegant updo.

Ultimately, it's entirely your decision whether each member of your bridal party would like their hair styled. If someone would prefer to do their own hair because they only want a very simple style, that's absolutely fine too—there's never any pressure.

My priority is making sure your wedding morning runs smoothly, with enough time for everyone to feel relaxed and look their very best.

What's your signature style?

That's such a great question—and probably one of the hardest to answer! 🤍

Every bride is unique, so my approach is always to create a hairstyle that feels like the very best version of you. While I love creating a wide variety of bridal looks, I'm best known for soft, modern and effortlessly elegant hairstyles that feel timeless rather than trend-led.

One of my most requested looks is soft, textured waves. Brides love their natural movement, beautiful texture and relaxed feel. I much prefer hairstyles that look effortlessly beautiful rather than overly polished or heavily structured.

I'm also creating more and more down hairstyles and glamorous Hollywood waves, which I absolutely love. If you normally wear your hair down, your wedding day doesn't have to be the day you suddenly wear it up. Sometimes the most beautiful bridal hairstyle is one that still feels completely like you—just elevated for your wedding day.

For brides who love wearing their hair up, my signature updos are soft, textured and full of movement. Think romantic face-framing pieces, effortless texture and beautifully placed details that feel modern, elegant and long-lasting.

Above all, I want your hairstyle to complement you—your dress, your personality and your wedding style—rather than simply following the latest trend. My goal is for you to look back at your wedding photographs in years to come and still love your hairstyle just as much as you did on the day.

If you're looking for inspiration, take a look through my Gallery, Pinterest or Instagram. Saving images from my own portfolio is especially helpful because every hairstyle has been created by me, giving you the best idea of what we can achieve together.

Do you offer bridal make-up or can you recommend a make-up artist?

While I specialise exclusively in bridal hair, I'm very fortunate to work alongside some incredibly talented bridal make-up artists.

Over the years, I've built wonderful relationships with trusted professionals whose work and approach I genuinely love. Whether you're looking for soft, natural, glowing make-up or something a little more glamorous, I'd be delighted to recommend artists who I know will help you look and feel your very best.

If you'd like some recommendations, simply get in touch and I'll happily send you a list of my favourite bridal make-up artists.

After all, finding suppliers who work beautifully together helps create a relaxed, enjoyable wedding morning—and that's exactly what every bride deserves.

Do you offer hair colouring?

Yes, I do! Alongside bridal hair, I'm a fully qualified colour specialist with over 30 years of experience.

I specialise in creating beautiful, natural-looking colour, including lived-in blondes, balayage, soft highlights and glossy brunettes—perfect if you're looking to refresh your hair before your wedding without high maintenance.

If your colour just needs a little boost before the big day, I also offer Redken glossing treatments to enhance shine, refresh your tone and leave your hair looking healthy and radiant in your wedding photographs.

All colour services are carried out using professional Redken products, and a skin test (patch test) is required before any colouring appointment.

If you're thinking about refreshing your colour before your wedding, I'd recommend booking your appointment 2–3 weeks before the big day. This gives your colour time to settle while still looking beautifully fresh for your wedding.
